Thomas Sankara, a notable revolutionary is sometimes referred to as the "Che Guevara of Africa". He was President of Burkina Faso from 1983 when he was only 33 years old. His anti-imperialism policies made him unpopular among some quarters and was subsequently assassinated in 1987.
